Our second season playing croquet at Traco has been overall very successful.
We had 38 members playing croquet, with 3 roll-ups each week which were reasonably well attended.
We had both internal competitions and entered some external ones. The external competitions were very much a learning curve for our members since they were a new experience for most of our players. So although our results were not great, most people appeared to enjoy them and they will continue to improve in future years.
6 of our members represented our club in the Ladies Day competition at Sussex County – a very prestigious club with multiple lawns. Our team acquitted themselves very well.
Our internal singles knockout competition was won by Andy Walker while the doubles was won by Andy (again) and Angela Walker. We ran 3 league competitions, based on handicap, with the A league won by Andrew Le Feuvre, the B league by Jane Warner and at the time of writing there are still some matches to be played in League C.
We also held our annual Doubles Day competition at the end of August which was slightly rain affected and ran over to the following day before being won by John Ely and Pam Bonsor.
We had a few sessions with a qualified coach from Sussex County, and we will be discussing a more structured programme with him for the 2026 season.
We must give enormous thanks to the team of greenkeepers who managed to continue to provide us with a very good playing surface in spite of the very dry conditions for much of the summer. We would also like to thank the Bowls playing members of the Club for the harmonious relationship that exists between us.
So we are now looking forward with enthusiasm to the 2026 season!
