End of Season Work Party

Well done to all who turned up to do the necessary work storing chairs, tables, plants and equipment away for the closed season. A good job swishing the green, clearing the ditch, weeding and a much needed general clean up. There is still some personal clothing and equipment in the portacabin so it would be appreciated if these items could be collected to aid the working party clean up pre season (feel free to join us, many hands make light work ).

Croquet in 2025

Our second season playing croquet at Traco has been overall very successful.

We had 38 members playing croquet, with 3 roll-ups each week which were reasonably well attended.

We had both internal competitions and entered some external ones. The external competitions were very much a learning curve for our members since they were a new experience for most of our players. So although our results were not great, most people appeared to enjoy them and they will continue to improve in future years.

6 of our members represented our club in the Ladies Day competition at Sussex County – a very prestigious club with multiple lawns. Our team acquitted themselves very well.

Our internal singles knockout competition was won by Andy Walker while the doubles was won by Andy (again) and Angela Walker. We ran 3 league competitions, based on handicap, with the A league won by Andrew Le Feuvre, the B league by Jane Warner and at the time of writing there are still some matches to be played in League C.

We also held our annual Doubles Day competition at the end of August which was slightly rain affected and ran over to the following day before being won by John Ely and Pam Bonsor.

We had a few sessions with a qualified coach from Sussex County, and we will be discussing a more structured programme with him for the 2026 season.

We must give enormous thanks to the team of greenkeepers who managed to continue to provide us with a very good playing surface in spite of the very dry conditions for much of the summer. We would also like to thank the Bowls playing members of the Club for the harmonious relationship that exists between us.

So we are now looking forward with enthusiasm to the 2026 season!

Aldershot Traction Bowls & Croquet Club AGM

The Annual General Meeting of your club will take place at the Traction Social Club on Wednesday 30th October 2024 @ 7pm. All members are encouraged to attend, be involved and make it a successful evening. There will be further information regarding the AGM in due course via WhatsApp, e-mail and notice board.

John “Dobbo” Dobson

Today we said our final farewell to undoubtedly one of the finest bowlers to grace our Traction Club green. His children should be so proud of John’s brilliant final farewell and the Bowlers who attended were made to feel most welcome. Dobbo you will be missed!

Results update

A fine win at home by the A team against Farnborough RBL 4-1 , still sitting in 4th place in Div 1. Bit of a disaster for the B team going down 5-0 away to Mytchett, as Steve would say 99-23 could of gone either way!!! 😉Another disappointing evening for the mixed triples loosing 6-0 to Cove. On a positive note THE ONLY WAY IS UP so I’m hedging my bets to a better second half to the season 🤞

We still have representation in the various County and A&D singles, pairs and triples , we also have a home match in the Coventry Cup against Old Dean on Sat 15th plus the Club competitions are up and running so plenty going on.

Bowls News Update

More disappointment in the Farnham & District Mixed Triples League with another heavy defeat this week, keep your heads up guys as we still look for our first victory this season. Hopefully everyone is aware that the draw for all internal competitions has been made and are on the notice board in the cabin. We have had mixed results in the various County, District single, pairs and triples competitions this year and would urge members to keep an eye on the rink bookings and on WhatsApp and hopefully come along and support your fellow members.

Bowls results & fixtures

Mixed results last week with the “A” team winning, “B” team loosing ,Mixed triples narrowly loosing, the Men’s national two fours again a narrow defeat and the disappointment of having to withdraw from the National Top Club. This coming week we see the “A” team at home to Seal & Sands, the “B” team travel to Hawley while the Mixed Triples take on Farnborough, good luck to all players 👏👏
