Match Report Croquet Team vs Woking 25/06/24
We assemble in the Traco car park. Aldershot Traco Club’s first ever croquet match! Is the team nervous? Of course we are…
A warm welcome at Woking. Lovely sunny afternoon. A beautiful setting in a quiet residential area. Two lawns immaculately prepared.
The match will be played using the Golf Croquet Advantage Handicapping System which is unfamiliar to most of us but is quickly explained. We have lower handicaps overall so, allegedly, are the better players.
Doubles matches first. Andy/John and Lynn/Colin are our pairs. Andy/John start badly (nerves?). We mutter that we are being outclassed, but recover to lose 5-7. Lynn and Colin romp home 7-1 on the other lawn.
Now the singles. Andy, Colin and John all win. We break for tea with a 4-2 overall lead.
The final session is two singles/one doubles. We need one win to return with heads held high.
Then Andy and Lynn both lose. We’re tied 4-4.
I sit and watch the doubles. Are we winning or losing? John gives me a thumbs up. It’s looking good. On the final hoop, Colin executes a fine jump shot and perfectly positions his ball to win the hoop, the game 7-3, and the overall match 5-4.
Phew!
Shout out to Colin, the only player on either team to be undefeated.
Many thanks to Woking for their wonderful hospitality and great tea!
We win our first Croquet Match 😊
Our team emerged triumphant this afternoon with a 5-4 victory at Woking
Hope to get a full report from our victorious Captain, Andy Walker, in due course
First Croquet Match
We will be playing our first match this Tuesday 25th June away at Woking
We will be represented by Andy Walker, John Ely, Lyn Topper, and Colin Smith
Good luck team!

Results update
A fine win at home by the A team against Farnborough RBL 4-1 , still sitting in 4th place in Div 1. Bit of a disaster for the B team going down 5-0 away to Mytchett, as Steve would say 99-23 could of gone either way!!! 😉Another disappointing evening for the mixed triples loosing 6-0 to Cove. On a positive note THE ONLY WAY IS UP so I’m hedging my bets to a better second half to the season 🤞
We still have representation in the various County and A&D singles, pairs and triples , we also have a home match in the Coventry Cup against Old Dean on Sat 15th plus the Club competitions are up and running so plenty going on.
Bowls News Update
More disappointment in the Farnham & District Mixed Triples League with another heavy defeat this week, keep your heads up guys as we still look for our first victory this season. Hopefully everyone is aware that the draw for all internal competitions has been made and are on the notice board in the cabin. We have had mixed results in the various County, District single, pairs and triples competitions this year and would urge members to keep an eye on the rink bookings and on WhatsApp and hopefully come along and support your fellow members.
Both teams get a win
Both the A and B teams got a win on Tuesday evening with the A team winning 4-1 away at Pyestock and the B team winning 4-1 at home to Farnborough.
This moves the A team up to fourth in league one and the B team are now off the bottom of league two in seventh place.
On one of the rinks for the A team Steve Stairs, Bill Thripp, Dave Whitehead and Doug Stewart managed to score an eight which is called a hotshot on one end.
This evening the Farnham and District team play Farnham in a league game.
Bowls results & fixtures
Mixed results last week with the “A” team winning, “B” team loosing ,Mixed triples narrowly loosing, the Men’s national two fours again a narrow defeat and the disappointment of having to withdraw from the National Top Club. This coming week we see the “A” team at home to Seal & Sands, the “B” team travel to Hawley while the Mixed Triples take on Farnborough, good luck to all players 👏👏
National 2 Fours Competition
Following our victory away to Alton the Traco men’s team travelled to Oakley (not a happy hunting ground in days gone by ). Far from being intimidated both rinks started steadily and were always in contention with some excellent bowls played by both teams. Alas rink 1 were finally defeated 15 – 12. At this time rink 2 were leading by 1 with 2 ends to play but lost 3 shots on the penultimate end , we therefore needed 5 on final end. With the jack taken out the rink the end had to replayed, we were holding 4 with both skips to play we were getting excited- great shot by their skip reduced it to just 1, rink 2 beaten 17 – 16.Brilliant effort guys no disgrace loosing to such a high ranking team. Onwards and upwards👏👏👏
